Stewed Blackberries



1 quart blackberries
1 cup water
1 pinch salt
1 cup sugar

Carefully wash berries; drain. Place berries in saucepan with water, salt and sugar. Cover, and heat slowly, stirring until sugar is dissolved; simmer berries for about 15 minutes. Stir gently to prevent berries from sticking. Remove from heat. Serve warm or chilled, over hot biscuits, plain or with cream. If fruit is very ripe, add 1-2 T lemon juice.
