Cooked Fudge

3 cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup evaporated milk
¾ cup butter
12 ounce package semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 ½ cups marshmallow crème
½ cup pecan pieces
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

In a large heavy saucepan, combine the sugar, milk and butter and bring to a boil.  Reduce to medium heat; stirring constantly, cook for 5 minutes or until mixture reaches 238° on candy thermometer (soft ball stage).  Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients, stirring vigorously until completely blended.  Pour into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan and cool completely before cutting.  Makes about 3 pounds.
