Apple Fritters

4 large apples, peeled, cored and chopped
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup buttermilk
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Dash cinnamon (optional)

Stir dry ingredients together in mixing bowl and beat in egg and milk until well mixed.  Stir in apples until well coated.  Drop by tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil and fry until dark golden brown, turning once.  Drain well.  Dust with sugar or serve as is.
