Magic Cake Cobbler

*When my children were toddlers, they called this my “magic” cobbler due to the way the cake seems to “appear” during the baking process.

2 cups canned sliced fruit (peaches, apples or berries)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup whole milk
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup boiling water
Oven:  375°

Spoon fruit evenly over bottom of buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.  Combine 1/2-cup sugar, milk, flour, salt and baking powder and stir until smooth.  Spoon evenly over fruit.  Sprinkle with 1-cup sugar and pour the boiling water over all.  Do not stir.  Bake for about an hour or until cake is golden brown and bubbly.
