Fresh Pole Beans and Potatoes

1 pound fresh green pole beans, snapped and rinsed
6 to 8 young tender new potatoes, scraped free of peels and rinsed
1 tablespoon ground summer savory
1 slice salt pork

Place all ingredients into a large heavy saucepot, covering with water by 2 inches.  Cover, bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium and allow to boil at least 1 hour or until vegetables are tender.  Should serve a family of 4.
